Happy Thanksgiving

Puck Thanksgiving 1904. Illustration by Louis M. Glackens

Artist Louis M. Glackens captures the resolute huntress after she bagged her own turkey with shotgun still in hand and a look in her eye that says I can make the bacon as well as bag the bacon. This image is from a well-known 1904 satirical magazine’s cover known by the moniker of “PUCK”.

I found the image at the Library of Congress site and couldn’t resist, it is in the public domain.

Hope you all are having a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Day

Christmas 2011 — Birth of a New Tradition

Christmas 2011 — Birth of a New Tradition

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods — merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is!

It’s time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?
Everyone — yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It’s appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.

Who wouldn’t appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the Benjamins on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.

There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants — all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn’t the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn’t about big National chains — this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn’t use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.

My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.

OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre.

Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.

You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn’t imagine. THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.

Forward this to everyone on your mailing list — post it to discussion groups — throw up a post on Craigslist in the Rants and Raves section in your city — send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. This is a revolution of caring about each other, and isn’t that what Christmas is about?

BUY AMERICAN – BE AMERICAN The job you save might be your own

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder & Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping EFT

The artists associated with Storm Haven Studios offer our Thanks to all who have served in every war and branch of military.

There was never a good war, or a bad peace!
Franklin

In 1971, Mrs. Michael Hoff, the wife of a U.S. military officer listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War, developed the idea for a national flag to remind every American of the U.S. servicemembers whose fates were never accounted for during the war.

The black and white image of a gaunt silhouette, a strand of barbed wire and an ominous watchtower was designed by Newt Heisley, a former World War II pilot.

Some claim the silhouette is a profile of Heisley’s son, who contracted hepatitis while training to go to Vietnam. The virus ravaged his body, leaving his features hallow and emaciated.

They suggest that while staring at his son’s sunken features, Heisley saw the stark image of American servicemembers held captive under harsh conditions. Using a pencil, he sketched his son’s profile, creating the basis for a symbol that would come to have a powerful impact on the national conscience.

By the end of the Vietnam War, more than 2,500 servicemembers were listed by the Department of Defense as Prisoner of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA).

In 1979, as families of the missing pressed for full accountability, Congress and the president proclaimed the first National POW/MIA Recognition Day to acknowledge the families’ concerns and symbolize the steadfast resolve of the American people to never forget the men and women who gave up their freedom protecting ours. Three years later, in 1982, the POW/MIA flag became the only flag other than the Stars and Stripes to fly over the White House in Washington, D.C.

PTSD & Trauma Awareness Day: This November 11th, 2011 in locations around the world, EFT practitioners will be hosting live events in dozens of communities to raise awareness of PTSD and the profound affect that EFT can have on treating those affected by combat and war. Eric Huurre, producer of the award-winning documentary film OPERATION: Emotional Freedom, has created the 11/11 PTSD and Trauma Awareness Day Event to support greater public education on PTSD and trauma as well the important role that EFT can fill in communities affected by war.

Notable advocates of energy psychology are supporting this effort including EFT Universe founder Dawson Church who says, “PTSD is an invisible wound.

It doesn't leave burn marks or battle scars, yet it can be as devastating as the loss of life or limb.

Not only do those with PTSD often suffer terribly; their families and communities suffer too, through transferred PTSD.

November 11 is a day we can help them, wherever we are, by sending our messages of care and support through the 11.11 PTSD and Trauma Awareness Day Event for Healing the Trauma of War.

Please extend your heart and hand to those in your community affected by this silent yet devastating condition.” ~Dawson Church, PhD.

Howdy to All

We here at the Storm Haven Studio would like to invite ya’ll to come join in our initial class offering!

This initial class will be FREE to attend! Space is limited! Please Call {337-3044...642-8310...642-6338} so you won't miss this opportunity to Feel Better for FREE!

It is a Qigong class being taught by Qigong therapist Sue
Tenzyk!

A quick overview as to what the modality consists of for those who are not familiar with the practice.

The modality of Qigong is a major healing modality used in the Art of TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine!

The term Qigong when broken down translates to Qi, which means Energy, and the term Gong means work!

Hence we have Energy Work.

Qi is the energy that flows throughout the entire universe, which includes the energy within one’s body!

There are three modes of Qigong, they are martial arts, medical arts, and the spirituality of the modality!
These classes will deal with the Medical aspect of the modality.

This practice aids in the prevention of disease as well as healing of oneself from within. This is accomplished by utilizing three aspects which are breathing exercises, gentle exercise movements and using ones intentions through visualization to help heal and prevent diseases….

The great point to this is that no matter what one’s state of mobility, anyone can join in because the gentle exercises can be done in a standing, sitting or even a reclined position

Please come join the Class which will be the initial offering at the newly formed Storm Haven Studio Center on Veterans Day Friday November 11 @ 11:00 A.M.

During this initial offering Sue Tenzyk will enlighten the participants as to the actual process of the Qigong modality that one can use to help them open their chakras to lead to a more energetic and hopefully renewed sense of well being and health.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR THIS EXCITING NEW CLASS.. SEE YOU FRIDAY!!

.............................................................

This is a quick overview of what the Qigong modality consists of!

The first class will be offered at Storm Haven as the launch of the niche oriented venue on Veterans Day Friday November 11 at 11:00 A.M.

Please come and enjoy the first of these interesting healing
classes to help prepare you for the rest of your day by looking within for Energy Guidance!
